FIJI Water Flying Fijians prop Atunaisa Sokobale delivered a masterclass performance over the weekend, playing a pivotal role in Castres’ historic 31-29 victory over Munster in the European Champions Cup.

Facing off against the seasoned Samoan captain Alan Alaalatoa, the 20-year-old dominated the veteran in all facets of the game, showcasing the remarkable progress he has made since his Flying Fijians debut last year.

Beyond his set-piece prowess, Sokobale has established himself as a reliable and explosive ball carrier, leveraging his 6-foot 4-inch frame with great effect.

His powerful, barnstorming runs kept the Munster defence on their toes throughout the match.

Notably, his dynamic 20-metre break in the 36th minute provided Castres with the crucial momentum needed to score their second try in a tightly contested encounter.

Sokobale’s rise at Castres is an encouraging sign for Fiji’s loosehead props.

It is rare to see a 20-year-old Fijian prop become a key member of a Top 14 club, securing a place in the team’s travelling squad for the European Champions Cup.

Sokobale’s impressive form positions him as the leading contender to challenge veteran Eroni Mawi for the Flying Fijians’ loosehead prop jersey.

Fiji currently boasts a strong pool of loosehead props, including Peni Ravai, Haereti Hetet, and Livai Natave, all viable options for head coach Mick Byrne as he prepares for the Nations Championship and the 2027 Rugby World Cup.

Former Flying Fijians lock Leone Nakarawa also featured for Castres but was shown a yellow card shortly after coming on.
