Westpac Fiji customers who are Department of Social Welfare recipients have been advised to open a BSP account to receive their payments straight away.

In a media statement issued yesterday, Westpac Fiji stated that for more than 10 years, Westpac Fiji had worked with the Department of Social Welfare (DSW) in facilitating recipients’ payments and continue to support its customers who receive DSW payments until they transition to BSP under the Ministry for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation’s new payment arrangement.

According to the statement it meant that as of October, all DSW payments have been made to BSP from the ministry, as have government subsidies.

“This month, for customers who hold Westpac accounts, BSP has then transferred Westpac account holder payments to us, which has caused a delay in payment. In order for DSW recipients to receive their payments straight away, they would now need to open a BSP account.”

Westpac Fiji has assured its customers who received social welfare payments and hold Advantage DSW accounts that there are no changes and their accounts remain ‘fee free’ at present.
