CRIBO, a police sniffer dog, turned heads yesterday when he appeared at the Labasa Airport to carry out duties of border patrol.
Divisional Police Commander North Senior Superintendent Naulumatua Lutunacaucau said a lot of people queried about the presence of the dog because his visit was unusual.
“The police dog is hardly seen at the Labasa Airport so his visit drew a lot of attention,” he said.
“We will now have a weekly check at the airport with the sniffer dog. We are working with Airports Fiji Limited and it is a good move as we ensure safety at our border.
“Cribo is the only sniffer dog in the North and we have another two dogs that are trackers.”
SSP Lutunacaucau said as a result of working with AFL, they decided to form a crime prevention committee for the airport.
