THE Extra Supermarket Fiji Southern Secondary Schools Futsal Championship 2025 kicked off at the Fiji Football Academy in Vatuwaqa Futsal court last weekend with Suva Muslim College making an impressive start securing a dominant 7-2 victory over Dudley High School.
The competition introduced last year has seen a rise in participation from schools in the southern division, with both boys’ and girls’ teams competing signaling a growing interest in the sport.
Suva Muslim College’s under-18 head coach Justin Amron Chandra, who also teaches mathematics at the school was pleased with his team’s performance, highlighting their progress since training.
“It was better than what we have done in training. It seems like we are growing each day,” he said.
“Last year, we reached the semi-finals, and this year we want to go all the way to the final so our boys can be even happier.”
Chandra noted that his players have matured both on and off the field, emphasising the importance of a strong mindset.
“It’s all about the mind game. If the mind is strong, we are going to get more good performances like this.”
With most of the players observing Ramadan, he stressed the importance of maintaining structure and discipline during matches.
“We are just trying to get the structure together so that we can execute our game plan properly,” he said.
Offering words of encouragement to his players, he reminded them to remain humble and focused.
“I always say that we should not fly high because we do not have wings. We stay on the ground, act like human beings and perform what we are required to do.”
Suva Muslim College will now look to build on their opening-round victory as the championship progresses.
