KADAVU captain Vaione Tegu was the standout player in the Vodafone Vanua Cup final, leading his team to a thrilling 23-17 victory over Navosa.

The match, held at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka yesterday, was a tense affair with Navosa initially taking the lead 10-8 in the first half.

However, Kadavu’s solid defense and determination in the second half proved to be the game-changer.

Captain Tegu was the hero of the match, scoring the decisive try that secured the win for Kadavu.

He praised his team for their resilience and fighting spirit, acknowledging the support of the fans and the people of Kadavu.

“The boys fought till the end to get the win, thank to the almighty for giving us the strength during this crucial match,” said Tegu.

“The boys knew this was a important match for us, we came in with only one aim and that is to win the final.”

Tegu credited their success to teamwork and the belief in their ability to come out on top.

As the team celebrates their victory, Tegu is already looking ahead to the next challenge the Skipper cup competition next year.

“Navosa gave us a good game, they was leading in the first half, I told the boys we need to step up our game in the second half, and we worked together to get this win.

“The next focus now is the Skipper cup competition next year, we will go home and celebrate this win, and get back to plan on what we can work on in our next competition.”

Tegu expressed his gratitude to the people of Kadavu, the villages, and the fans who stood by the team throughout the competition.

He adds the win is a collective effort and a source of pride for everyone involved.
