Six charged after major cocaine seizure in Vatia waters

The Fiji Police Force has confirmed that four foreign nationals and two men from Veisaru in Ba have been charged in connection with the seizure of 2,630 parcels of cocaine during a coordinated drug raid in Vatia waters on January 15, 2026.

Police said that following consultations with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), the four Ecuadorian nationals were each charged with one count of Unlawful Importation of Illicit Drugs, one count of Unlawful Possession of Illicit Drugs, and one count of Unlawful Entry into Fiji under Section 6(1) of the Immigration Act 2003.

The fifth accused, a 26-year-old man from Veisaru, Ba, has been charged with one count of Unlawful Importation of Illicit Drugs, two counts of Unlawful Possession of Illicit Drugs, and one count of Serious Assault.

The sixth accused, a 39-year-old man, also from Veisaru, Ba, faces one count of Unlawful Possession of Illicit Drugs and one count of Serious Assault.

Police confirmed that all accused persons will be produced at the Tavua Magistrates Court today.

Investigators have also pursued other individuals allegedly involved in facilitating the illegal operation, with police stating that investigations are continuing as they work to dismantle the wider network linked to the attempted drug importation.
