Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations, Agni Deo Singh will be visiting the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) scheme workers in Australia next week.

Mr Singh said he would meet employers, workers, and the diaspora there to make sure the terms and conditions in the contractual agreements were also honoured by the employers.

“Both workers and employers must know that this is a two-way thing, and I am sure this visit will be helpful,” he said.

He said there were a few isolated cases where the workers have not contacted their families or sending funds for their dependents.

“Another issue is we occasionally who have those who want to leave one job and go to another one.

“That is not possible because the visa requirements are clear, so any breach of that nature would mean that they will have to come back home — they need to be very careful with that.” Mr Singh said the workers must ensure that the contractual obligations they signed were fulfilled. At the same time, he said the vast majority “are bringing a good name to our country”.

There are almost 4000 workers in Australia.
