Singh stops Farzan

SEBASTIAN “The Sniper” Singh proved on Friday night that he is fast becoming the wonder boy of Fiji’s professional boxing.

This is after he stunned the boxing fraternity when he knocked out Fiji’s best pound for pound boxer, Junior “The Razor” Farzan Ali in the first round of their 8×3 bout promoted by Canada Fiji Southern Boxing Promotion at Nadi.

“The Razor”, who looked sharp making some fancy sidesteps as he stepped inside the ring, failed to live up to expectation, much to the disappointment of the more than 6000 spectators.

He landed the first punch, but did not make an impact on Sebastian who answered with a cheeky smile.

Sebastian then started to make his moves landing heavy punches on Farzan’s guard forcing him on the backfoot. He later followed them up with a left hook and then some combinations to the body before landing a right swing on the back Farzan’s ear that forced the Razor to kneel on the canvas.

Holding his ear while on the canvas, Farzan failed to stand up after the referee’s counted and the fight was stopped two minutes and four seconds into the first round giving a knockout win to Sebastian.

New Zealand-based referee and judge Faiyaz Khan said the impact of Sebastian’s left hook forced Farzan down.

“In the second minute there was a nice left hook by Sebastian and I could see the impact on Farzan’s face —— few seconds later he went down. I then started counting, and when I asked for a response after 8 he didn’t respond so I have to rule a knockout —— a clean knockout.”

Sebastian said he was happy to shut Farzan’s mouth with a knockout win after all the talking he did before the fight.

“I am happy we got the job done,” said Sebastian.

“Before the event, I sat down and visualised the fight in my head, how it’s going to happen and how I am going to fight.

“I first tried to psychologically disturb him. As soon as he threw his first shot. I looked at him and smiled. I knew he had lost the fight in his head. My dad had set up a good game plan and that was to establish the jabs and throw the big hands.

“I guess it was one of the wild left hands that missed him, I knew he knew it would be a matter of time before he got caught.”

Sebastian said he would return to his camp and plan on his next fight. Efforts to get comments from Farzan after the fight were unsuccessful.

Meanwhile, in the main supporting bout Abhay Chand avenged his two early losses when he defeated Opeti Tagi on a unanimous points decision. Sorokoba native Savenaca Naliva secured an unanimous points win over Tomu Gaunavou in the extra 8×3 minute extra supporting bout.
