The National Climate Change Finance Strategy outlines priority projects from both the adaptation and mitigation sectors of climate projects, says climate change mitigation specialist Ranjila Singh.

Speaking at a panel discussion at the Situation Analysis Workshop on Forest Landscape Restoration on Tuesday, Ms Singh said these projects were aligned with the National Development Plan.

“What happens is that the finances we currently receive, once we ask for the areas of support that we receive, mostly it’s aligned to the finance strategy,” she said.

Some of the project pipelines, Ms Singh said, were presented to the National Climate Change Committee.

“They will be prioritising those projects based on the needs and priorities of the Government and based on that, the whole project will be implemented.”

Ms Singh said the division had secured $US5.7million ($F12.9m) from the adaptation fund for 16 communities that had requested nature-based sea walls.

“We work closely with agencies depending on the type of funding we have available, but we also have requests from ministries on projects that need to be funded.”
