Sikh Association holds first AGM in five years

The Sikh Association of Fiji held its first annual general meeting after a lapse of five years at the Lautoka Gurudwara on Saturday in a move to revive the association.

Lautoka Gurudwara president Bayant Singh has been chosen to lead the association for a year.

“I have been chosen as the national president for the association along with the executives of the Lautoka Gurudwara sharing the responsibilities as well,” Mr Singh said.

According to Mr Singh, the council members of the association is comprised of executives of Lautoka Gurudwara, Tagitagi Gurudwara and Gurudwara Sahib Samabula Fiji with inclusions of Sikh Educational Institutions (Naidiri Bay Khalsa Primary School and Ba Khalsa College) board members and executives.

“Our mission and objectives are inclined with the teachings and philosophies of Guru Nanak and Sikhism.”

Mr Singh said the association would advocate the teachings of Sikhism to build a better Fiji.

“We want to help our communities grow together in order for the overall prosperity for the nation.
