The Police Reset document suggests that significant adjustments to the Fiji Police Force’s current command structure are required to meet the demands of modern policing.
The document outlines the need for clear lines of authority, efficient decision-making, an accountability framework, mentorship, and succession planning.
“Establish unambiguous lines of authority to ensure that each level of the command structure understands its role and responsibilities,” the document states, adding that this clarity will help reduce confusion and improve decision-making processes.
“Streamline the decision-making process to reduce bureaucracy and enhance responsiveness.
“This involves delegating more decision-making power to lower levels of the command structure, enabling quicker action on the ground.”
The document suggests the implementation of a robust accountability framework that includes regular performance evaluations, transparent reporting mechanisms and a clear set of consequences for misconduct or underperformance.
In addition, it calls for the introduction of mentorship programs where experienced leaders mentor emerging leaders to create a succession planning system to ensure a smooth transition and continuity in leadership roles.
