Listen to this article:

A trough of low pressure to the west of Fiji is expected to bring cloudy conditions, showers and possible thunderstorms across much of the country today.

According to the Fiji Meteorological Service, the system is slowly drifting southwards, while a moist easterly wind flow continues to influence weather conditions over the group.

Occasional showers are forecast for the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu-Naitasiri, Ra-Rakiraki, southern Bua and Cakaudrove, as well as Taveuni, Kadavu, Lau and Lomaiviti.

Elsewhere, conditions will be partly cloudy with isolated afternoon or evening showers.

Thunderstorms and isolated heavy falls are also expected later in the day, with the risk of flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas.

Authorities are advising the public to remain alert as weather conditions may deteriorate during periods of heavy rain.
