The Fiji Meteorological Service has warned that unstable weather conditions are expected to persist over the country for the next few days, as a weak trough of low pressure continues to linger over the eastern and northern parts of the Fiji group.

In its latest weather bulletin issued at 5:30am today, the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi said the system is bringing cloud and showers across much of the country.

“Associated cloud and showers are expected to affect the country till the next few days,” the bulletin said.

Showers are expected today over Navua, Suva, Nausori, Korovou, Tailevu, Serua, Namosi, Naitasiri, Ra, Macuata, and Cakaudrove, including Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, as well as Kadavu, Lau, and the Lomaiviti groups.

These are forecast to become more frequent tonight, with occasional thunderstorms likely over most areas.

Elsewhere, the weather will remain fine apart from isolated afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms, with a risk of isolated heavy falls in some parts.

Looking ahead to Tuesday, the weather office says occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms will continue over much of the country, particularly the Central, Northern, and Eastern divisions.

Members of the public are being urged to take precautions, especially in flood-prone areas.
