The Fiji delegation to the 13th Festival of Pacific Arts & Culture (FestPAC) in Hawaii consists of as many as 100 personnel from eight distinct clusters in the heritage, art and culture sector.
Director of Fiji Arts Council Maciusela Raitaukala told The Fiji Times the delegation include traditional and contemporary dance groups, fashion designers, and heritage artists which include weavers, carvers, visual artists — drawing, painting, sculptures, literary arts — storytelling, traditional navigation and drama.
He said the different art forms that Fiji was taking were part of the program to celebrate the 13th version of the festival in Honolulu.
“We are taking over 100 delegations from different art categories,” Mr Raitaukala said.
“We’re taking traditional meke group for both iTaukei and Rotuma.
“We are also taking contemporary dance groups because the festival not only celebrates traditional performances; at the same time, there is also a platform to celebrate contemporary art forms as well.
“Most of these contemporary art forms emanate from these traditional art forms and traditional artworks.”
The theme for this year’s festival is “Honolulu Lāhui: Regenerating Oceania”.
The delegation will leave our shores in two groups: the first left on Tuesday and the second group departs tomorrow.
