GEARING themselves up in less than a week for the Mick’s Fiji Tours & Transfers Vatulele 7s tournament is how the TEMC Warriors team put together a strong team for the two-day competition, which began yesterday at the Vatulele District School grounds.
Team coach Semi Kunatani, also known as “The Beast” mentioned this when asked how they prepared for the tournament.
He explained the team had just returned from Wairiki, Taveuni following the Fiji Bitter Wairiki 7s Carnival, which was a four-day tournament held at the Wairiki Parish Grounds.
Besides that, he elaborated on how the team fielded itself for this week’s competition in Vatulele.
“We had just returned from Taveuni, had only a day of training and made our way over (to Vatulele) yesterday (Wednesday),” Kunatani highlighted.
Having insufficient time to rest and recuperate themselves following their return from Taveuni was a hurdle faced by the team, as Kunatani explained when asked of any challenges encountered.
“I believe it was just the team not having time to rest since we had returned and then had to come on this journey (to Vatulele) but that’s not an excuse,” Kunatani stressed.
Another challenge he mentioned was the distant proximity existing among the players’ homes.
“The challenge that is indeed present is that the boys all live far apart from one another and only met up and I think that’s the challenge we faced too.”
Meanwhile, following the Vatulele 7s, Kunatani mentioned the team is expecting to make an appearance at the next leg of the Fiji Bitter 7s series in Vanua Levu early next year.
