THE Mediterranean Shipping Company’s Eagle Service was launched in Suva last month.
For an island nation, connectivity is important. Reliable shipping is not simply logistic, but it is the bloodstream of trade, development and national resilience.
In launching the new MSC Eagle Service in Suva, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism, Viliame Gavoka said MSC’s decision to strengthen weekly services in Fiji enhances network efficiency and demonstrates a long-term commitment that ensures Fiji’s exporters and importers remain seamlessly linked to global market.
He said those improvements reduce transit times, enhances reliability and increases predictability for businesses across the country.
“It means a farmer in the interior, a manufacturer in an industrial zone or a supplier supporting our hospitality sector can compete globally with confidence,” he said.
He said the launch of the Eagle Service was a step forward in that journey.
“With eleven vessels calling weekly, direct arrivals into Philadelphia and Savannah, and market-leading transit times from Australia to the United States East Coast, Fiji is now positioned closer to opportunity than ever before.
“Through seamless transshipment links from Suva and Lautoka via Tauranga, our goods can travel efficiently across continents. Whether it is fresh produce, seafood, premium agricultural products, or high-priority cargo, the Eagle Service ensures that Fiji’s exports reach markets quickly and in peak condition.
“This is not merely faster shipping, it is faster opportunity, faster growth and faster national progress.
For local businesses, cost efficiency and reliability determine competitiveness.
“MSC’s focus on value and service excellence supports enterprises across Fiji – from small exporters to large importers – enabling them to plan, scale and innovate with confidence.
“Strong logistic systems reduce uncertainty. Reduced uncertainty encourages investment. Investment generates jobs and jobs strengthen communities.
“This is how global shipping partnerships translate into real impact for Fijian families.”
