A few students from Fiji National University in Ba and Namaka had the opportunity to observe real workplace hazards and risk controls during a western industrial field trip last month.

The Fiji National University’s Certificate IV and Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety students had the opportunity to visit several businesses in the west including Port Denarau Marina, Nadi.

According to a Port Denarau Marina statement, their operations manager Prikesh Singh and Security, Health and Safety and Environment manager, Apenisa Vakararawa guided the students through the Port Denarau Marina’s daily operations.

The students were assisted by their OHS instructor, Prashnil Dass during the trip.

Port Denarau Marina stated that the students had gained valuable hands-on exposure – observing workplace hazards, understanding risk controls and seeing OHS best practices in action.

The experience was crucial in shaping confidence in students and to be work-ready professionals in the future.

According to the Fiji National University, the student also got a chance to visit the Fiji Airways Hangar, Water Authority of Fiji Nagado Treatment Plant, Total Energies Vuda Terminal, the Lautoka Port and Pernix Fiji (Vuda Power Station).
