THE new $2million Nabouwalu Passenger Services Terminal will provide safety, comfort and a sense of order before and after a journey for inter-island travellers.
The new terminal means less congestion and good sitting space for elderlies and tired travellers before their boat trip.
The terminal was opened by the Housing and Local Government Minister, Maciu Nalumisa last week.
Mr Nalumisa said through the terminal and larger Nabouwalu township development, Government was empowering communities, creating new economic opportunities and laying the foundations for long-term growth and prosperity.
“The $2million terminal is part of that commitment because you deserve better,” he said.
“You deserve clean spaces, proper shelter, and a safe place to wait for your journey.
“You deserve an environment that treats every mother, father, elder, worker, student, and visitor with respect.”
He said the terminal would allow local businesses to thrive.
“The kiosks and ticket booths open doors for local businesses,” he said.
“There are three food kiosks, one handicraft and one hair saloon. These are all businesses from Bua.
“This is the start of a vibrant town centre that will bring jobs, attract investment, and support the growth of Bua.
“When the community grows, families grow. When families grow, Fiji grows.
“With a police post here, modern facilities, and proper offices, everyone can travel with confidence and peace of mind.”
Mr Nalumisa said with the construction now complete, the next chapter would soon begin.
“The management of this terminal will be handed to the Savusavu Town Council. This is a sensible and strategic move—local infrastructure should be cared for by local people who understand the needs of the community.”
He also announced the plans to upgrade the Natovi Passenger Terminal which will begin in January 2026.
