The Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) conducted an awareness session in the province of Rewa last week.
The team, according to an MSAF statement reminded boat operators of the importance of adhering to safe boating practices.
The awareness session also focused on the need for all boat operators to be fully certified and licensed in accordance with maritime regulations.
They emphasised that proper training and documentation were essential to ensuring the safety of both the passengers and crew when travelling.
As part of their visit, the team also conducted on-site inspection of vessels at the landing.
The authority said they checked for compliance with maritime safety standards.
The inspections included checks for life saving appliances, firefighting equipment, structure of the boat and the seaworthiness of the vessel, reinforcing the authority’s commitment to upholding safety and regulatory compliance in Fiji’s maritime sector.
