The Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration, together with key stakeholders, has held an information session with members of New Zealand’s Maritime Security Oversight Committee (MSOC) as part of efforts to advance Fiji’s Maritime Security Strategy (MSS).

The session provided insights into New Zealand’s approach to maritime security, offering strategic considerations that will help inform Fiji’s upcoming national consultation process.

Officials said the discussions reinforced Fiji’s commitment to developing a comprehensive maritime strategy that aligns with the recently launched National Security Strategy.

The MSS will be designed to integrate with existing policies and operational frameworks to strengthen national security while addressing emerging maritime challenges.

The ministry confirmed it will soon engage with a broad range of stakeholders through an inclusive consultation process to ensure diverse perspectives are incorporated into the strategy.

“This collaborative approach will help us develop a strategy that reflects Fiji’s national priorities,” the ministry said in a statement.

Fiji also extended its appreciation to the New Zealand Government and the MSOC Secretariat for sharing their experiences and lessons learned, which will play an important role in shaping the MSS.
