Moala in Lau can become a new destination for game-fishing.
Moala waters hold the potential to attract visitors seeking a unique experience-based adventure.
During the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism, Viliame Gavoka’s visit to Lau last week, he highlighted how tourism will be different in the future for Lau.
As part of the visit, Mr Gavoka and United Nations Resident Coordinator, Dirk Wagener travelled to Moala, Fulaga, Lakeba, Cicia and Vanuabalavu to assess tourism potential and infrastructure needs.
The visits according to Government were part of early discussions towards a master tourism plan for the Lau Group, including the Bay of Islands near Fulaga.
The recent Camakau Canoe Regatta has placed Fulaga in the tourism map.
While islands like Fulaga have no airstrip, alternative options are being considered such as improved sea access for cruise liners and super yachts.
Mata ni Tikina for Moala, Daku Niulevu, welcomed the Government’s visit and inclusion of Moala in the wider tourism vision.
“Our people are thankful that Moala is being considered,” he said.
“This gives us hope that our island’s resources and skills can support new opportunities for our young people.”
