This will offer locals the chance to visit the vessel’s library, aimed at promoting literacy, education and cultural exchange.

Her visit is more than just a ship visit. It reflects commitment to supporting initiatives that bring knowledge and opportunity closer to Fiji’s communities.

On board, the corporation said visitors can access a wide selection of books, including children’s stories, educational resources and inspirational titles.

The corporation added that the experience would be enriched by the ship’s international crew, who represent diverse cultures and engage with visitors through shared stories and conversations.

The floating library is expected to attract families, students and book lovers eager to explore its collection and experience a rare, world-class initiative.

The Doulos Hope initially called into Lautoka Port before sailing to the capital, marking the start of its unique cultural and educational visit to Fiji.

The opening ceremony hosted by Fiji Ports Corporation Limited was attended by port officials, stakeholders and members of the public to welcome the vessel, its crew and its mission.

According to Wikipedia, the former cruise ship is owned by the German faith-based German charity Gute Bücher für Alle.

Currently named after the MV Doulos’ the world’s oldest active ocean-faring passenger ship until its retirement in December 2009, Doulos Hope was originally intended to sail as the Lady Sarah.

The ship will be opened from 10am to 5:30pm Tuesday to Friday and from 1pm to 7pm on Saturday and Sunday. The ship will be closed to the public on Mondays.

Entry is $2 per person and people are required to take a photo ID along with them during their visit.
