SHIPPING TIMES | Cruise ships bring over 1000 tourists to Fiji

FIJI has welcomed more than 1,000 tourists so far this month following visits by the cruise ships Seabourn Quest and Crystal Serenity.

According to ship agent Transam, Seabourn Quest visited Dravuni island, while Crystal Serenity made port calls at Savusavu, Lautoka and Suva.

Transam said Seabourn Quest carried a total of 442 passengers and 504 crew members, while Crystal Serenity arrived with 578 passengers and 346 crew members during its visits to Fiji.

Crystal Serenity, which measures 250 metres in length and has a gross tonnage of 68,870, visited Savusavu on February 1, Lautoka on February 8, and Suva on Monday, February 9.

Several other cruise ships are also expected to visit Fiji this month. According to Transam’s schedule, these include Coral Princess, Amera, MSC Magnifica, Le Soleal and Carnival Luminosa.

Coral Princess is scheduled to visit Suva and Dravuni. Amera is expected to call at Dravuni and Lautoka, MSC Magnifica will visit Suva, Le Soleal will dock in Lautoka, while Carnival Luminosa is set to visit Denarau.

Meanwhile, Fiji Ports Terminal Limited’s monthly vessel schedule says a total of 66 vessel visits to Fiji in the month of February.

The Port of Suva is expected to record 40 vessels visits compared to Port of Lautoka’s 26.

For Suva, there will be 20 container ship visits, seven cruise liner visits, two tankers, two oil tankers, two multi-purpose, three car carriers, one whaling ship, one cargo, one clinker and one cable ship visits.

FPTL adds that cruise liners to visit this month are Seabourne Sojourn, Disney Wonder, Crystal Serenity, Coral Princess, MSC Magnifica and Seven Seas Navigator, which will visit twice. Yushin Maru 3 from Japan will visit Suva on February 19.

Port of Lautoka is expected to receive 21 container ship visits, two bulk ships carrying wheat and ammonium sulphate and three cruise liners – Crystal Serenity, which will also visit Suva, Amera and Le Soleal.
