Teci villagers in northern Yasawa have called for Government’s franchise shipping services to serve their community.
Yasawa district spokesman Senirusi Sevutia said the villagers were travelling on smaller vessels, while others wait for the monthly boat services because of high demand.
“I have made several requests to the Ba Provincial Council office and the DO’s (district officer) office for the Government vessel to make a stop at our village,” Mr Sevutia said.
“Teci is in the middle of the district of Yasawa. “If the Government shipping franchise services a village in the northern part of Yasawa, it will have to pass by Teci.
“Our proposal is, if the same vessel could stop at Teci too, while on its way to the north of Yasawa.”
Assistant Roko Tui Ba Nemani Tarotaro agreed the village was without a proper shipping service.
He explained the government vessel was servicing areas that were closer to the Queen’s Wharf in Lautoka while villagers in the North of the group had to travel long hours to the Sugar City.
He urged the Transport Ministry to divert some services to areas such as Teci.
Ministry of Transport director Faranisese Kinivuwai said the proposal from Teci Village was with the ministry. She said they would respond to the request after carrying out an assessment.
