Police Sharks women’s captain Laisa Takayawa says the defending champions were ready to begin their title defense as the Vodafone Fiji Cup women’s competition began yesterday.
The 2026 Vodafone Fiji Cup was officially launched on Thursday, with round one of matches getting underway as clubs across the country launch their campaigns for national honours.
Speaking during the launch, Takayawa said the team is well prepared for the opening round but expects a much tougher season ahead as all teams raise their standard.
“We are well prepared and looking forward to our first game,” she said.
“We won’t take any team lightly this year.”
The Police Sharks have dominated the women’s competition for the past two seasons, but Takayawa acknowledged that retaining the title will not be easy following the loss of several players who have secured overseas contracts.
Despite the changes in personnel, Takayawa said the team’s foundation remains built on discipline, teamwork, and respect for opponents.
The Police Sharks met the Serua Dragons yesterday.
