SHARING knowledge and learning from one another is vital in developing rugby across the Pacific, according to French Rugby Federation Officiating Education Coordinator Stephane Guillot Demontoux.
Demontoux is in Fiji this week as part of the CAP Rugby Training Week being held in Nadi, bringing together rugby stakeholders from Fiji, Samoa and Tonga.
“I’m here this week to share my experience and my knowledge with the participants and listen to the other countries in the region on their understanding of the game as we work with delegations from Fiji, Samoa and Tonga.
“My objective for this week is simple – to understand the methods that these three unions use to teach their referees and assistant referees and perhaps they can also take some of our methodologies back to their unions,” Demontoux said
The week-long programme, which officially opened on Monday and runs until July 25, has gathered coaches, referees, club administrators and federation representatives from the three Pacific nations.
Funded by the Agence Française de Développement and implemented by Expertise France in partnership with the Fiji Rugby Union and the French Rugby Federation, the programme focuses on developing trainers who can support coaches and match officials while also improving club and federation management.
Participants are taking part in classroom sessions, practical workshops and on-field training aimed at strengthening technical expertise and rugby structures across the region.
Yesterday, participants held their practical session at Ratu Navula College where they worked on coaching and officiating techniques.
The CAP Rugby programme also promotes inclusion, gender equality, environmental awareness and community development through sport, while fostering stronger collaboration among Pacific rugby nations.
