The National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi states the interior, southern and eastern parts of Viti Levu and the southern half of Vanua Levu is now under a severe thunderstorm warning for heavy rainfall.
According to the Centre, severe thunderstorms are developing this afternoon and are expected to bring intense downpours over the next few hours, increasing the risk of flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas.
These storms are expected to strengthen into severe thunderstorms capable of producing very heavy rainfall.
Forecasters warn that thunderstorms can be highly unpredictable. While some areas within the warning zone may experience minimal impact, others could be hit with sudden and severe weather.
Thunderstorms and heavy rain are expected to continue until later this evening.
