KEEPING the youths engaged and active during the festive season is a top priority for the organisers of the ‘Drugs and Violent Free Rugby 7s tournament’ in Bua.

They have called on youth groups to join them at the Wairiki Village ground in Bua.

The tournament on December 20-21 aims to promote a positive and healthy community by providing a platform for young people to showcase their sporting talent.

About 24 men’s teams, four women’s teams, and eight under-20 teams will be participating in the event, with an additional 16 volleyball teams also competing.

Registration fees for the men’s teams are $360, with the cup winner to take home $3000 and the runner-up will receive $1500.

Cash prizes will also be awarded to the losing cup semi-finalists, as well as the plate and bowl winners.

For the women’s teams, the registration fee is $150, and only four teams will be accepted to participate. The cup winner for the women’s division will receive $400.

Tournament organiser Apolosi Vakaloloma emphasises that the competition is aimed at keeping the community drug and violence-free during the festive season.

“We are the organisers and we are helping out the youths in Bua.

“There will be food stalls available, and one thing about the venue is it’s just beside the main road, near to the hospital, near the river and the water supply is good, and, we have solar power available.”

Registration for the tournament will be due on December 17.
