Opposition Leader Inia Seruiratu in Parliament on Monday – FIJI PARLT

OPPOSITION Leader Inia Seruiratu says the Opposition will not be pressured or enticed into supporting the Constitution (Amendment) Bill 2026 at its third reading, insisting any decision will be guided by the interests of the people they represent.

Mr Seruiratu said the Opposition had not been approached by the Government to discuss its position on the proposed constitutional changes.

“We have not been approached,” he said when asked whether the Opposition would support the Bill at its third reading.

He said the Opposition remained open to participating in the parliamentary process but would not compromise its principles.

“We are here for the interests and the concerns of the people that brought us into Parliament and that we will stick to those principles.

“We are not going to be easily enticed to vote.”

Mr Seruiratu said the Opposition had entered the constitutional review process with an open mind and would continue to assess the remaining work before Parliament.

He said Opposition MPs had a responsibility to those who had placed their trust in them through the electoral process.

“We have our responsibility to the people that had faith in us and brought us into Parliament.”
