Mr Seruiratu, who is in the process of forming his own political party, may face off with some of his former colleagues in the upcoming polls. However, while being interviewed by the media, he said all candidates stood on equal ground.

“Everyone has a right to contest,” he said. “It’s about how you present your ideas, your values and the service you intend to deliver. Elections are about trust.”

When asked about reports that FijiFirst could return under the new name Fijians First, Mr Seriratu said he was unaware of the move.

“You seem to have more information than I do. I’m not aware of that.

“In politics, you need to be nimble and flexible. Politics is unpredictable. You must consider all your options.”

In the upcoming elections, Mr Seruiratu said the focus should be on principles, values and what is best for the country.

“We’ve had enough of adversarial party and personality politics.

“We need to focus on what’s good for the country.”

Asked about his motivation for continuing in politics, he said it was driven by his desire to serve.

“For me, it’s not about where I see myself. I’m simply making myself available to serve. That’s my passion.

“Politics will come and go, but what legacy do we leave behind and how do we contribute to a better Fiji and a sustainable democracy.”

Mr Seruiratu said the next elections would not be on any individual but Fiji and its future.

“If I can contribute in some small way to achieve that, so be it. Let me be remembered for that.”

Mr Seruiratu stood under the FijiFirst banner in the 2014 and 2018 elections and served in ministerial positions.

He lost in 2022 and served as Opposition Leader.
