The Coalition Government has begun work to fulfil its promise to take a serious look into the water sector to improve water and wastewater services.

A statement by the Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) said a workshop held in March identified key areas of focus for the Water Sector 2050 Plan while immediate action was being taken to address service delivery issues.

“Considering Fiji’s current and future challenges, diverse views are required to create a common vision and an action plan for water in 2050,” WAF stated.

“Therefore, during World Water Day on March 22, an ideation workshop was held to kick-start this Water Sector Strategy development process.

“The outcome of this ideation workshop was a number of key ideas that were prioritised and summarised into a discussion paper to continue dialogue with the wider community and critical stakeholders.”

WAF stated the top-level priorities for the Water Sector 2050 Plan were; climate resilience and vulnerability, environment and tourism nexus, economic sustainability, infrastructure and asset health, and circular economy.

Discussions were scheduled for the Thematic Area 10 on water and wastewater and waste management presentation at the two-day National Economic Summit yesterday where the discussion paper from the ideation workshop was to be presented.
