SEVENS legend Waisale Serevi says the Rugby World Cup 7s is expected to be a part of the World Rugby calendar in years to come.
“I contacted World Rugby after news circulated that it will be removed,” he said.
Serevi said the last World Cup in Cape Town was a huge success.
“I don’t think 7s will be taken out, it’s an exciting sport with many fans around the world supporting it.”
He said the sport has grown over the years.
“Sevens is a great spectacle. It attracts fans from all corners of the world, and the World Cup in South Africa proved just how much the game has developed.
“It’s fast, thrilling, and accessible to all kinds of people.”
He urged World Rugby to keep it as a key part of the global calendar.
“If there’s any plan to remove Rugby Sevens, I ask World Rugby to please keep it. This sport has come a long way, and it’s a platform for many to showcase their talent.”
Fiji are the defending champions of men’s 7s rugby, winning the last edition in South Africa in 2022.
