Sentencing for rapist four

Listen to this article:

THE High Court will next month sentence four men convicted of raping a seven-year-old boy on different occasions in a maritime province in 2018.

The accused persons, who were juveniles when the incidents occurred, but are now aged 20 and 23, were found guilty of seven counts of rape committed on unknown dates between January 1 and December 31, 2018.

The child did not inform anyone of the incidents because the accused persons told him not to.

He only realised the acts were wrong when he learnt about “bad touch” and “good touch” in school.

Court records show the victim knew the men as cousins and neighbours in the village.

The four had their sentence hearing last week before Justice Pita Bulamainaivalu, who, after assessing the evidence, found that the prosecution had proven the case beyond a reasonable doubt.

The men will be sentenced on August 11.
