PROUD moment for the Namuaniwaqa Sea Eagles rugby league team from Ra as they celebrated a hard-fought victory over the Nazy Albatross team with a score of 13-12 in the Vodafone Cup semi-final competition at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori on Saturday.
The match was intense from the beginning, with both teams giving their all until the final whistle blew, culminating in a well-deserved win for Namuaniwaqa.
Despite a minor scuffle breaking out between the two teams at the end of the game, officials quickly intervened to ensure that the victory was earned fairly and squarely by Namuaniwaqa.
Head coach Mosese Kaitaci commended the team for their dedication and hard work during training, emphasising the significance of this crucial win for the players.
“It was a tough and exciting semi-final match for the boys, they have really put on the hard work during training, and getting this big win is something special for the boys,” said Kaitaci.
“We prepared well for this match, and had a little fight in the end, but the main fact is we won the match fair and square.”
Kaitaci acknowledged the financial challenges the team faced, including entrance fees and travel expenses, highlighting the sacrifices made by the players.
“I told the boys we need to put all our hard work and sweat on the field and aim for victory in this year’s competition.
“Most of the players they are not working, so by playing in this competition it helps them financially to buy something at home for their families.”
He adds training in less-than-ideal conditions, such as using tires and trees for pull-ups, the team’s journey to the final has been marked by resilience and determination.
Looking ahead to the final match against the defending champions, the Vusu Raiders, Kaitaci stressed the team’s focus on improving their defense and ball work.
Kaitaci mentioned the upcoming challenge will not be easy, but the Sea Eagles are determined to be fully prepared and give their all to secure the win.
