The scope of work for the Lautoka swimming pool has been scaled back, with the childrens pool removed from construction plans, Lautoka City Council special administrator Ratu Tevita Momoedonu has confirmed.
Ratu Tevita said the new pool won’t be doing any children’s pool.
“However, the warm up pool will have floaters installed, which children could still use because we have a floating place for them,” he said.
“I know when you go to hotels and resorts, the very people who frequently use the pool are the children and our school students.
“We are trying to work something out.”
Ratu Tevita said the number of toilets constructed had also been reduced.
“In the initial plan there were going to be about 45 toilets and bathrooms, and that has been reduced to cater for the budget we have now.
“We are just trying to salvage and finish the pool for the sake of the ratepayers and public at large.”
The Government had allocated $4.6million in the 2023/2024 National Budget for the pool, which is expected to be completed by November this year.
“I know we already put out a tender application for the project manager for the completion of the pool.
“And also, just lately, we have put out a tender for the construction of the completion of the pool.
“So, we have started the tender. We can assure the public the swimming pool will be completed by November this year.
“Because the processes are being followed and we are following the government tender procurement policy.”
