The Fiji Schoolboys under-18 team is currently in intense preparation for their upcoming two Test matches against Australia.

Head coach Peniona Ranitu has already selected an extended squad of 38 players out of the 80 who attended the trial on Wednesday.

The final 30-member squad will be chosen next week after a week-long training camp.

Ranitu emphasized the importance of maintaining the players’ fitness levels, especially since they have just completed a long season in the Fiji Secondary School Deans competition.

“The team will undergo strength and conditioning tests to assess their fitness levels and make necessary adjustments,” said Ranitu.

“We can see in the first trial the level of fitness they have, and we must try to maintain that, because the Australian team won’t be an easy team to beat.”

Fiji Rugby Union technical coach Mike Legge is focused on improving the players’ core skills and position-specific techniques.

He believes that honing these skills will help the team compete effectively against Australia.

The test matches are scheduled to take place on September 27 and October 3 at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.
