YOUNGSTERS from the Holy Trinity Anglican School in Suva took to the HFC Bank Stadium for their one-day interhouse meet yesterday.

Competition began at 9.30am as the athletes took to the tracks and the jump pits for participation in the meet.

The four competing houses were Twitchell (blue), Holland (green), Kempthorn (red) and Vockler (yellow).

Assistant head teacher Dharmendra Shiromani said the driving force behind the interhouse this year was to have more participation from students.

“Our main motive is to have more and more participation, and we did train for this day, we did prepare for this day, and here we are today,” Shiromani said.

Around 200-300 students participated in the meet yesterday and he added the level of competition was higher this year.

“It’s much better and more competitive competitive this year, I would say.

“The children have prepared very well. I would say they’ve done very well.”

He highlighted organising an interhouse of this scale meant it was difficult having to find facilities that could cater for the large number of students.

According to him, the school had to pay for the hire of Marist Brothers High School’s tracks.

“Our children used to go there and train also. We trained in our school ground, but to better the results, we also went there (to Marist),” he said.

Parents and guardians came out in numbers to support their children as well, and the assistant head teacher noted their support towards the interhouse as a tremendous one.

The school is having its interhouse as a build-up to the zone meets in a few weeks time, and he added the school planned to increase their medal count at the event this year.
