The National Fire Authority (NFA) is challenged to meet and exceed the high expectations from people and society,” says Youth and Sports Minister Jese Saukuru.

Officiating at the National Fire Authority Quality Awards 2023 last week, Mr Saukuru said the Government had been providing support to the NFA through grants.

Mr Saukuru said this was towards purchasing of new fire trucks, and ambulance vehicles, infrastructural development and funding of the emergency ambulance service.

“We thank the National Fire Authority for all the work carried out diligently so far in providing fire emergency, rescue and ambulance services,” he said.

“Another area particularly that has been of concern of late is the rising number of accidents and fatalities on our roads and we must acknowledge the critical work done by firefighters in this area of rescue operations, especially the extrication and transporting of road accident victims to hospitals.

“On behalf of the Government, I wish to acknowledge the great work carried out daily by our firefighters around the country, the traumatic experiences that they face when rescuing fire victims and road accident victims.”
