Former Republic of Fiji Military Forces senior officer Meli Saubulinayau has been appointed the new Chairman of the iTaukei Lands and Fisheries Commission.

The appointment was announced by the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs in a media release issued today.

Saubulinayau, who hails from Tubou in Lakeba, Lau, replaces Apimeleki Tola in the role.

According to the ministry, Saubulinayau brings extensive leadership experience gained during his military career, including service in both national and international operations.

Following his military service, Colonel Saubulinayau (Retired) continued to hold leadership roles in the community and national organisations.

He previously served as Chairman of the Lau Provincial Council and also as Chairman of Cricket Fiji until his recent appointment.

The Ministry of iTaukei Affairs said his experience in leadership and governance is expected to strengthen the work of the iTaukei Lands and Fisheries Commission.

The commission plays a key role in overseeing matters relating to iTaukei land and fisheries resources, including administration, policy guidance and ensuring the protection of indigenous land and fishing rights.
