Last year’s losing finalist of the Vodafone Cup Super 8 Championship Saru Dragons will do what it takes to go one better this season.

This has been highlighted by coach Netava Rarokoliwa as the side prepares for its opening round match against the defending champions Nadera Panthers tomorrow.

“We are looking forward to the competition this season,” he said.

Rarokoliwa added that the team has put behind the disappointment from last year- losing the final 10-16 to Nadera Panthers.

“We have to improve on our defense and also our attack.

“We will be forgetting about last year and starting again this year and hopefully do one better and win the title. The boys have been training hard and we are focused on our aim.”

He said the team’s recent outing in the Makoi Fiji Nines tournament where they lost to Serua Dragons in the quarter-finals had provided an idea on the areas the team needed to work on.

“The competition would be good because we would be facing the best seven teams in the country.

“It would also enable the bottom team’s to work hard and be part of the competition next year and would make rugby league very professional in Fiji.”

Rarokoliwa said the Kaiviti Silktails competing in the Ron Massey Cup has opened the doors for more local players to be fed into the Silktails team and the Fiji Bati.

“The inclusion of women’s competition this season is good as well,” Rarokoliwa said.

Saru Dragons will face Nadera Panthers at 3.45pm at Lawaqa park in Sigatoka.
