A total of 43 inmates at the Suva Corrections Center received a spiritual boost yesterday following a visit by representatives from the Shree Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji.
This visit marks the beginning of a wider initiative that will be extended to all major Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) facilities housing Sanatan inmates.
Leading the delegation were Mahesh Mishra, Pundit Suresh Maharaj, Pundit Krishna Chandra, and Justice of the Peace Asish Prasad.
The team will assist the FCS with in-care programs, providing dharmic materials, bhajan and kirtan books, and mentoring services.
Acting Commissioner of Corrections Mr. Sevuloni Naucukidi hailed the visit as a “historic and groundbreaking milestone” in Fiji’s rehabilitation efforts.
“It was encouraging to see the inmates’ reception. They showed deep interest and requested holy scriptures, kirtan and bhajan books, and ritual guides to support their spiritual upliftment,” he said.
“The work of rehabilitation is not something we can achieve alone. We welcome those who can assist us—especially faith-based groups that offer hope and healing.”
