Former Melbourne Rebels assistant coach Tim Sampson has joined the Fijian Drua vuvale as the team’s attack coach.

The Drua officially announced yesterday that Sampson will have the task of masterminding the Drua attack in the upcoming seasons of the Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific competition.

Sampson brings a wealth of international playing and coaching experience to his new role.

“I am thrilled to be given the opportunity to coach at a club such as the Drua, I have admired them since their involvement commenced in the National Rugby Championship in 2017,” he said while speaking to Drua media.

Sampson was most recently the senior assistant coach at the Rebels who made it to the 2024 quarter-finals for the first time in the history of the competition.

He was previously the head coach at the Western Force between 2018 to 2022 with overall responsibility for the entire coaching approach of the club.

“Working under Mark Evans (Fijian Drua chief executive), Baden Stephenson (general manager), Glen Jackson (head coach), and fellow support staff was what attracted me to the role along with coaching a group of extremely talented athletes,” Sampson added.

The 48-year-old has coaching experience at both premiership and Super Rugby Pacific levels following his prominent playing career where he was awarded Queensland Premier Rugby Player of the Year 2005.
