SAMOA A displayed style and class to thrash Tonga A 50-0 in the 2016 World Rugby Pacific Challenge in Suva yesterday.
Clearly putting last week’s round one loss against Fiji Warriors behind them, the Samoans scored seven tries to outclass Tonga A at the ANZ Stadium.
Fly-half Danny Tusitala and open-side flanker Oneone Faafou scored two tries each. Captain Greg Foe, halfback David Osofua and outside centre Isaia Petelo scored in the win as well.
Petelo, Tusitala, Faafou and reserve halfback Mealani Matavao were Samoa’s better performers of the day.
Samoa A led 20-0 at halftime with Osofua running about 60metres from broken play to score the second try.
“I’m really happy with the boys’ performance today (yesterday) but disappointed with the game last week we gave away,” Samoa A coach Potu Leavasa said.
“We reviewed the Tonga (A)and (Junior) Japan game. I’m happy with the outcome today (yesterday).”
Samoa A must beat Junior Japan on Thursday to qualify for the final against Fiji Warriors.
“We need to improve in the breakdown area. We need to make sure that we secure our ball from the pressure area. Japan, we know play a fast game. Also, we need to improve our line-outs and set-piece. We really want to win the next game.
“The focus is to win against Japan,” Leavasa said.
Samoa A plays Junior Japan at 3.30pm.
