THE Marist Saint Joseph club from Samoa is eagerly anticipating the start of the 49th Fiji Bitter Marist 7s tournament, which kicks off today at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.

Team captain Joseph Silver, 29-years-old, is thrilled to be in Fiji for the first-time and is looking forward to showcasing the talent of his team while learning from their Pacific Island counterparts.

According to Silver, the primary goal of the team’s participation in the competition is to gain exposure and knowledge, as well as to share their talent with the rugby community.

He emphasised the importance of competing alongside Fijian players and expressed his eagerness to learn from them during the tournament.

“We are here to compete in this competition to share the talent and learn new things from our Pacific Island brother Fiji,” said Silver.

“There will be a lot of great teams in the competition, but we came ready, and we also here to win the competition and take the trophy back to Samoa.”

Silver expressed gratitude for the support of their families and the Samoan community, requesting prayers and encouragement as they represent their country on the international stage.

Regardless of the outcome, Silver emphasised the team’s intention to credit their achievements to the Almighty and honor their homeland.

The competition will begin today at 7am, with the under-21 matches.
