Samo back home

FORMER Wallaby utility Radike Samo is keen to set his foot on Prince Charles Park, the place where his rugby career started.

Samo, now 39 years, is part of the Brisbane Fijians team that is grouped in Pool 5 with Army Nadro, Dratabu and Sorokoba at the Fiji Bitter Nawaka 7s.

A three-time winner of the Super Rugby title, Samo said he was glad to be home.

He said the team was made up of players from Brisbane and a few locals.

“We have drafted some boys from the villages of Yavusania, Korovuto and Moala,” the 23 Test cap Wallaby said.

“The boys have had a few training sessions and are raring to go. For me personally, I started off my career playing here so it would be special to play on home ground again.

“It is a good trip to catch up with family and friends as well.

“I have a young family and my boy plays rugby while my daughter enjoys netball.”

Samo still plays active rugby back in Brisbane. He is part of the GPS Rugby Club that participates in the Queensland Premier Rugby Competition.

The Brisbane Fijians face Sorokoba at 9.30am today.
