Fiji’s largest Hindu organisation Shree Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha has urged all supermarkets and retail stores in the country to immediately remove any liquor or alcohol products which contains pictures of Hindu deities.

This comes to light after Lord Ganesha pictures were spotted on Brookvale Union Ginger Beer label in one of the renowned supermarkets in Fiji, according to the organisation.

“Supermarkets and retail stores should validate the products before it is put on shelve,” said Sabha’s national secretary Pundit Krishneel Tiwari. “These kinds of acts hurt the sentiments of our Sanatan Dharm followers.

“This is an insult to our deities and it is known to all that Sanatan Dharm followers around the world are preparing for the celebration of Ayodhya Ram Mandir inauguration in India (Bharat) on 22nd January 2024,” he said.

He said this type of marketing approach was seen as an attempt to undermine the Sanatan Dharm and its teachings.

“We are requesting relevant authorities to look into this matter as soon as possible.”
