FORMER Fiji 7s coach Ben Ryan may have left Fiji 7s but the nutritional plan he introduced to the Fiji 7s team is still being used by the team.
Fiji Rugby Union trainer Nacani Cawanibuka, who was with Ryan in the three years he spent polishing the skills of the Fijian ruggers has continued to use the diet program that was set up for the Fiji team then.
This has also become the standard nutrition plan for the national 7s team.
“The nutrition plan that we’re using is the standard nutrition plan that we have for Fiji 7s, we found that it’s something that does the job with our players,” Cawanibuka said.
The national rugby trainer said they had experienced the nutrition plan was good for the players and had decided to continue using it.
“We found that it really fast tracks their physical improvement so we get their body composition down, we get their body fats down very quickly and obviously with the intense sessions that we do, and the kind of weather that we’re blessed with, these are all the factors that influence our physical improvement.
“But the beauty about that is that these are all the factors that improve our physical improvement, sometimes the beauty about that is that it actually helps us to fast track their development a little bit in terms of their fitness.”
Cawanibuka said the Baabas won’t hit the sand dunes as yet because of the short preparation time.
“The game side of things is very important, that’s the game time goal when we’re short on time; with the congested preparation time as such, we got to work smart, not necessarily hurting the players; we hurt them but also with game in mind.”
