RUGBY World Cup qualification is still within reach for Ikale Tahi Tonga as they patiently wait for their semi-finals fate in the 2025 World Rugby Pacific Nations Cup.

Tonga rugby coach Nili Latu stated after their loss to the FIJI Water Flying Fijians last weekend that they are on the right track in terms of the goals they have set, building up to the 2027 RWC in Australia.

“Victory against Samoa really put us in the right direction, it’s in our hands now. We are going to regroup and whatever comes our way, we know how important that game is and the mission is to qualify as well to the World Cup,” he said.

If Samoa stumbles to its second pool loss this weekend, Tonga, which is on a bye, may join Fiji to the last four from.

This as they had already secured a win in round one and is second in the Pool A standings.

Making the semi-finals would strengthen Tonga’s efforts as strong performances in the PNC will play a pivotal role in securing a place at the next Rugby World Cup.

Only Fiji and Japan have secured their places in the global event.

Tonga, Samoa and Canada, through qualifying events, will have to fight for their way to Australia in 2027.
