THE Russian Government has congratulated Fiji on its 45th Independence Day celebration.
On Friday, Russian Federation Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said he was confident of further strengthening relations between the two nations.
In a letter to Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama, Mr Medvedev said: “I am confident that further strengthening of traditionally friendly Russian-Fijian relations, development of mutually beneficial co-operation in trade and economy, science and culture corresponds to the longstanding interests of our countries.”
Russia’s Foreign Affairs Minister Sergey Lavrov also shared the same sentiments with his Fijian counterpart Ratu Inoke Kubuabola.
Mr Lavrov said Fiji had made significant progress in social and economic development, strengthening its position in the international arena.
He said Russia considered this as a basis for the advancement of the Russian-Fijian co-operation in a wide range of areas.
“I count upon deepening of the bilateral interaction in addressing topical global and regional issues for the benefit of our countries.”
