STUDENTS in remote rural areas are still dropping out of school despite immense support from the Government, according to Education Minister Aseri Radrodro.
He told the Naitasiri Provincial Council meeting, “It has been observed that, despite the Government’s support such as paying for school fees, transport and textbooks, many students, especially those living in the more remote and rural areas, are still dropping out.
“I want to reassure and encourage us (parents) to focus on improving the quality of our children’s education.
“We must be vigilant about how education is being delivered and ensure our children who have dropped out are brought back to continue their studies.”
Mr Radrodro said there were plans within the ministry to establish secondary schools in other districts around the province.
“It was announced in Parliament that there will be a new school at Nakorosule, another at Naqali and one either at Colo-i-Suva or Cunningham.
“This is part of efforts to bring schools closer to where families live.”
Mr Radrodro said the aim was for government assistance to directly reach schools, helping them to grow and improve.
“This will ensure that education becomes more accessible and better resourced for our communities.”
